There's a special bond between cousins. They generally don't have the sibling stress, but they share unconditional family love. I grew up seeing my cousins only a couple of times a year because of distance, but when we did get together, there was always feasting and fun. I've been blessed to reconnect with some of my Kentucky Cousins over the last year, and adore them even more today.
Sis and I have 4 kiddos between us. They've grown up around the corner from each other and played/fought more like siblings. They've been supporting each other at games, recitals, musicals and plays their entire lives. I love seeing their connection. We have three more cousins we adopted into the famjam to bring "Gaga's Grands" to 7. We all live in the same neighborhood. They are 'ride or die' for each other, no matter what. Gaga spoils them like a good grandmother should, and we will all be connected for life.
The holidays are more special because of these cousins. They've kept us entertained, worried, busy, proud, and amazed for over 20 years. We celebrate with them when they succeed and pray for them when they're struggling. We packed the waiting room at each birth. We mourned Papa's death together. We've shared every holiday meal. We've spent many hours swimming in Bibi's pool. We've hunted eggs, had sleepovers, and shared clothes. We've enjoyed victories and supported each other through losses. Most importantly, we've been there for each other. When I was young, I was envious of my friends who had cousins close by. I'm so thankful that my boys received that blessing. It's made life much richer.
We've now shifted from over the top birthday celebrations to graduations and even a wedding, which added another cousin-in -law to the crew! Our lives are changing at a rapid pace, but their bond is still strong. It's been a joy to watch them grow up, and I cannot wait to see what is next.
Here are some photos of Gaga's Grands over the years. May your holidays be filled with family love! Take the pictures. You'll be glad you did.
Get ready for cousin photo overload...... they sure are a cute bunch, if I do say so myself.
